Past Presidents of the University of the Philippines

The University of the Philippines Presidents refers to a group of individuals who became president of the University of the Philippines (UP) System. The president of UP is elected by the 12-member UP Board of Regents (BOR) – the highest decision-making body of UP – to a single term of six years. From 1911 to 2011, 20 individuals - 18 Filipinos and two Americans - have served as UP President.

The current president of U.P. is Mr. Alfredo E. Pascual. He is the first President to be appointed by the U.P. Board under a new charter, which was enacted in 2008 (U.P.’s centennial year) and which designated U.P. as the national university. Just before his appointment as U.P. President, Alfredo was the President of the U.P. Alumni Association and a member of the U.P. Board of Regents. He assumed office in February 2011 for a six-year term.
