In UP lingo, "tambayan" refers to a hangout place or a spot on campus. It ranges from a bench on a corner in UP to an office to a designed hut where members of a student group hang out. Etymologically, it's a corruption of the English "stand by" that morphed to the Filipino "istambay" (someone who hangs out).
